Foothills Market:  The Market is Open!

It looks like we’re in for some nasty weather next weekend, right after pickup day for Foothills Market on Thursday. Right now, the forecast is for snow and the coldest weather we’ve had so far this winter. Sounds like a great time to get a special treat, like some homemade brownies or cookies, a thick slice of a fruit bread, or a snack box with a variety of treats. Add some mint in a cup of hot tea, and you have the perfect setup for a cozy snow day!

Browse the market between now and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. Be sure to click the “Place your order” button to finalize your order, and we’ll have everything ready for pickup on Thursday.

Eat something fresh this week!

It’s another amazing week at RCM! Shop before 10 PM tonight to get great groceries for your family! Try sourdough bread or pretzels from our newest baker, Maple Brook Bakery, or plan meals around your favorites from Cecelia and Otis or Victoria’s Little Bread House! Cecelia’s Lemon Drop cookies are sure to banish the winter blues and Victoria’s sandwich bread will make delicious sandwiches to feed a crowd! Apricot hand pies from Pine Ridge Gardens are a tasty treat and Connor’s Garden and Sweets’ oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are a nice variation on classic chocolate chip! Isn’t She Sweet is baking this week; her strawberry bread and cinnamon rolls are delicious! Check out the beautiful handmade shawl from Hoof Hollow Hobbies or woven table runners from Houston Family Farm and Fiber in the Fiber Arts category. Kaitlyn’s Sweets and Treats can custom bake and decorate a cake for birthdays or special occasions and Kourtney’s Country Canning and More has delicious wild muscadine jelly. Remember to take advantage of The Fortunate Mushroom’s fresh mushrooms when they are available or try one of the many grow kits to grow your own! Fresh turnips from Hoof Hollow Hobbies are a nutritious choice and winter squash from Drewry are great for making delicious warm dishes! Besides Drewry’s fresh apples, Pine Ridge Gardens has fresh kumquats, too! There are plenty of fresh eggs available and lots of cuts of amazing meats. Bluff Top has sliced pork belly, C3 Beef has a great family pack and did you know R&D has beef breakfast sausage and chorizo? Porch Swing Farms has lovely pork chops and a selection of gourmet sausage that is delicious! NashPhilly: Soup season is here and I added a new soup, a hearty Manhattan clam chowder. Filled with juicy clams and tomatoes, chunky potatoes and carrots. Sure to warm you right up!

Some more hearty and warm dishes are my green bean casserole. And I am now making chicken rosemary pot pie. The casserole is sure to be a delightful side to any dish. I make my own cream of mushroom soup for this and finish it with Parmigiano cheese. The pot pie is what you would be expecting loaded with peas, carrots, potato with the added flavor of rosemary. Puff pastry is laid on top and acts as the pie crust.

Finally if you haven’t had a Philly cheese steaks in a while. Try one of mine! 100% 1/2 pound of rib eye meat, delicious homemade cheese wiz sauce, sautéed onions, red bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sure to be one of the best sandwiches you have ever had!

Calico Farms: Our dairy-free maple sea salt cookies are available in 6-packs & unlike any cookies you’ve had before. They are all organic & the perfect blend of sweet maple with a touch of pink Himalayan sea salt sprinkled on top. Get your hands on these customer favorites before they’re gone!

Our organic vegan chocolate syrup is SO rich in chocolate, it’s sinfully delicious & makes the perfect cafe mocha, chocolate milk or ice cream topping. Available in or canned 8-oz jars.

Be sure to check out our spicy herbed mixed nuts & sweet & spicy pecans – a mouth watering snack straight out of the resealable bag, thrown in chicken salad, or topping your favorite mixed greens.

D.B. Collectables: Help ward off those winter chills with these warm hat and scarf sets. The hats are knitted, and the scarves are woven or knitted.

Flying S Farms: Fresh Farm Eggs Special: Bundle of 3 dozen discounted price or by the dozen. Sour Dough Breads, Friendship Breads, Delicious Brownies, Biscuits and Jams to name of few.

MISC MARKET NOTES

January Blessings

After many weeks of mostly mild winter weather today (Saturday, Jan 6) is a breath of fresh air and this editor was counting on rain to justify staying indoors for desk work. So I’m dealing with both gratitude for warmth and open doors and discontent that I’m not outdoors doing something my body thinks I probably shouldn’t attempt, lol.

Most people go into a New Year with resolutions; they resolve to do something to benefit them personally or professionally. This never a bad thing, but it can be attempted badly resulting in failure. Failure leads to discouragement and eventually discouragement leads to “why even try?”

My own experience is that I always attempted too much at one time and expected too much too soon. Last year, 2023, I went a different direction and did something different by making myself accountable to an outside authority. It worked, but it took a whole year to actually see results. The key was little changes over a long period of time. Then the blessing showed up.

Change is like that – in the case of resolutions in order to be permanent, it needs to happen slowly over a long period of time.

So whatever your 2024 goals are, make your plan, call in help if you need to, break it up into bite size chunks and keep working your plan. Eventually you’ll look back and be proud to say “I DID IT!”.

CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
